Stealth

One of my favorite things about Father's Day is the incredibly noisy stealth Henry employs to surprise me with breakfast. This morning at about 7:00 he came in and banged around our bedroom retrieving a breakfast tray. When I woke up and asked if everything was okay, he mumbled, "I just... mommy said... cereal."

Hmmm...

We hear noises in the other room. Katharine goes in and asks Henry and his friend, "What are you guys doing?" Henry replies, "We're playing camping. Zombie camping."

Tooth Fairy Reboot

One of my fondest childhood memories is the poems we'd get from the Tooth Fairy, which were incredibly, wonderfully stupid. Figuring out that my scientist dad wrote them made me love them even more. So now that Henry's losing teeth, I'm picking up the reigns. Last night he put one in a velvet bag under his pillow. This morning he woke us up full of excitement.

Math

Today, Henry and I were playing Yahtzee and for no reason he flipped over a scorecard and started adding. I honestly had no idea they were doing this at school.

Tooth Fairy?

Katharine discovered Henry'd lost his first tooth this today. Henry had no idea where it was or even that it had happened.

Hmm

HENRY: You know what? I said something funny. We were walking to the baby school today and I said, "I wish I was a baby. Because then I would be able to listen."
ME: Did everybody laugh?
HENRY: Everybody except the teacher.
ME: Really?
HENRY: She just frowned.

Table Hockey

I was sent this photo from Todd early today. His caption: "Here's some of the intense action that happened on the ice during Henry's visit!"

Selina and Todd

Our friends Todd and Selina hung out with Henry today, giving KG and I the chance to catch a movie ("Her", which was great). Henry had a fabulous time, too. Todd even let him sit on his motorcycle on the way out. So cool!

Linguist

   Nighttime. Henry's room, late-ish.

ALBERT:  Alright Bud. I'll see you tomorrow.
HENRY: (Clings to Albert's arm and whimpers) Noooo!
ALBERT:  I'm sorry you're sad, Bud. I really am. But you do this every night. I can't stay forever. (A new thought...) It's kind of like The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
HENRY:  What??
ALBERT:  The story.
HENRY:  I didn't cry wolf.
ALBERT:  No, I know. I just mean when you say the same thing a lot, it starts to wear off.
HENRY:  I didn't cry wolf. I cried... parent.

Tent

The sweetest gift from the Webers that we finally got around to putting up - an Eric Carle themed tent. KG and I have been climbing in with him at night to read to him from his latest chapter book, "Little Lord Fauntleroy".

Our Little Skeptic

Henry: You know what the kids at school said?
Katharine: What?
Henry: They said if you step on a big crack, you'll die.... WATCH THIS! (he steps on a big crack)

KG and the Boy

So I finally got a smart phone and started taking pictures, which of course means the dad to mom photo ratio should even out a bit.
