Finish Line
I've just spent the week getting paid to do what I love with great people in a great environment. But I missed my son.

Dialogue
KG: Do you want a kiss, Henry.
HENRY: No.
KG: Alright. Your loss.
(HG gives her a big kiss.)
HENRY: Now I'm not lost!

Henry And I At Work On The Puzzle
This video seems to me a pretty representative slice of our lives together right now.

I Made A "D"!
KG and I were chatting this evening when Henry shouted from the other end of the room, "I made a 'D'!" I went over to find this (below) on his drawing toy. I must say, I never thought I'd be excited to hear that particular sentence come from my son, but at this point in his little life, I'll take it!

Night Out In Encinitas
A couple of weeks before I finished my gig in SD, David and Annie had HG and I over for dinner. It was a lovely way to spend a night off and I found myself wishing I had done it much more frequently. Ah, well.
At the end of the night, we took some pictures. Annie manned the camera, so unfortunately we didn't get any pics that include her, but she did get some shots of the Dayan men.

Looking Back
As I'm nearly done with my time here in San Diego, I thought I'd do a little "document dump." Below are some photos that for one reason or another I didn't post over the last half-year.

Bye Bye, Jen
Last night was Henry's final one with Jen, our primary SD babysitter for the past two summers. Tomorrow, the little guy heads home for good after our five-and-a-half month adventure in SD. Jen was such a gem. It seemed Henry was always happy after spending time with her.
I took him to the store before she arrived and told him to pick out a gift. Not sure exactly how much he understood about what was going on, but he ended up choosing a couple bars of soap and a souvenir "Coronado" deck of cards. You can see them sitting on top of our thank you card in the corner of the photo below.
Any way you slice it, he was bummed to see her go. Jen told me he had a little meltdown when she went to put him down for the night. Then this morning he asked about her over and over. After a while, in fact, I started spelling her name as I talked to KG on the phone, just to keep from depressing him all over again.
The whole family's going to miss her very, very much. All the best, Jen. Thanks for everything!

Nasty Fall
HG really banged his head tonight. Scary. We were having a crazy game of hide and go seek, running into his room and out, when he toppled over simply turning a corner. I didn't see the moment of impact but I sure heard it - thwack! KG did too. I knew from the direction he'd been heading that he'd hit his forehead on the doorway to the bathroom.
This was the first time in my experience that he'd fallen in a way that worried me. Fortunately, his responses were what passes for good in these kinds of situations: crying (means he's alert), a big knot forming (injury located on surface, not beneath), and no blood. We decided to keep him up a little longer than usual to make sure he didn't get wobbly, nauseous, or abnormally groggy, which he didn't.
Poor little guy. The bump looks awful. He was a trooper, of course. Within a minute or two he was back to normal, playing games and having fun. If anything was unusual, it was that he seemed curious as to why we were behaving strangely toward him.
I put him to sleep a few minutes ago. We'll wake him up a time or two tonight to make sure it's nothing serious, like a concussion. Other than that, there's not much we can do except keep an eye on him for a while.
Okay, I've got to admit, I'm buzzing a bit. It's hard to shake the worry. Logically, I know it's fine, but my body's not ready to settle down.
